We begin by examining the personal social and economic consequences of this disease and then we focus on the cellular and molecular biology of cancer. Specifically we study the nature of cancer the role of viruses in cancer cellular oncogenes cellular signaling mechanisms tumor suppressor genes and the maintenance of genomic integrity.

The aim of this module is to develop knowledge of concepts fundamental to the ability of the Specialist Cancer Nurse to demonstrate competence across all domains of practice. The module focuses specifically on developing an advanced understanding of the biology of cancer. After a cancer has been diagnosed, the goal of traditional cancer treatment is the complete removal or destruction of cancer cells accompanied by minimal damage to normal tissues. This goal is usually pursued through a combination of surgery to remove the primary tumor, followed if necessary by the use of radiation or chemotherapy (drugs) or both to destroy any remaining cancer cells.

The Biology of Cancer is a textbook for students studying the molecular and cellular bases of cancer at the undergraduate, graduate, and medical school levels.

Researchers will have a comprehensive understanding of cancer biology that catalyzes the development of newer and safer ways to prevent, detect, diagnose, and treat cancer. Approach To improve our understanding of the many diseases we call cancer, we must unravel the complexity of how normal cells become cancerous and how cancer cells grow, survive, and spread throughout the body.

'The Biology of Cancer, written by the distinguished American cancer biologist Robert Weinberg, is by far the most extensive of these new works and, as the product of a single author, is a remarkable achievement. The book is beautifully illustrated in full colour and well supplied with key review articles. This course explores the biology of cancer.

Thea Tlsty, UCSF Professor of Pathology, explains the biology of cancer; that cancer arises primarily through damage to the genetic program of our cells, how 2006-05-07 · I loved cancer biology more than I ever did after reading this book, or let's say chapters of this text book. I only read the chapters I was required to study but I will definitely read the rest. It's one of the text books that I will keep as a reference.
