Petrified Forest National Park is famous for its fossils, especially of trees that grew on Earth about 225 million years ago, at the end of the Triassic period of the Mesozoic era. At the time, the region where the park is now located was located near the equator, in the southwestern part of the Pangea supercontinent, and was characterized by a humid subtropical climate.
